Hey there, I’m Izzat Zailan.
I started this blog with the intention of encouraging people to read more books. But over time, it evolved into something much larger than that.
I personally believe there’s always much more to life than what we immediately see and feel, which ultimately makes it worth living. And being human, we constantly need to be reminded of that, especially when the going gets tough.
And in case you’re wondering, the symbol of a fire on this blog is a concept that I borrowed from Cormac McCarthy’s novel The Road, in which he talks about “carrying the fire” — or keeping hope alive in dark and seemingly hopeless times.
Deriving wisdom from the annals of history, poetry and literature, philosophy, music, and just about everything in between — I write articles here mostly for myself first, as I attempt to make sense of whatever’s currently on my mind — and to give form to whatever knowledge I have into something that is immediately practical.
And if you could benefit from them, that’s great too.
Weekly articles are posted every Saturday and reading lists are posted on the first of every month.

Wishing you a good read,
